What is Platform 3: Study, Learn, Qualify?

Platform 3 is an innovative, accessible and cost effective online learning route for the delivery and undertaking of the Level 3 accredited qualification: Supporting Children and Young People’s Speech, Language and Communication.

The content was excellent, clear and all information was relevant.

Platform 3 helps practitioners working with children and young people, from a wide range of backgrounds in all different locations, access this Level 3 continuing professional development (CPD) Award. As well as studying for both mandatory and optional units, learners will be supported by an assessor, using an e-portfolio, and assessed and accredited online. Learners can be based anywhere in the country and study at their own pace, in their own time. This will help enable settings, through a better qualified workforce, to provide high quality early education in relation to children’s speech, language and communication.

Thank you, I gained A LOT!

Each of the units has learning outcomes with learning materials made up of slides with information, activities, portfolio tasks and transfer into practice reflective diaries.

Pilot Projects

Platform 3 2013 - 2015

I like being able to work in the evening around my children, work and family commitments.

From 2013-2015, through funding from the Department for Education’s Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) Grant scheme, The Communication Trust developed and piloted Platform 3: Study, Learn, Qualify.

230 Early Years practitioners were enrolled on the Platform 3 pilot, and 100% of those who completed the post qualification evaluation felt that they were more knowledgeable, confident and skills in:

  • Supporting development of speech, language and communication (SLC)
  • Identifying children who are struggling

Platform 3 for Childminders

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to complete the course. It was brilliant.

The Communication Trust is now building upon the success of Platform 3, working with PACEY to add content and activities to address the specific needs of childminders through funding from the Department for Education’s VCS Grant Scheme 2015-16.

Platform 3 is now available to learners through participating approved centres. For more information, please click
